I opened it.
There was another name at the top.
It wasn't mine.
It was a woman's name.
And next to that name... the same apartment we lived in.
The same building.
Another apartment.
Another project.
I felt like I couldn't breathe.

It wasn't a discussion about money.
It was a planned date.
For me.
That night, when he sat across from me on the bed, he spoke with a calmness that sent shivers down my spine.
"I need a companion, not a burden."
I stared at him.
"Since when have I been a burden?"
He didn't answer directly.
"I'm just saying I want a woman who's my level."
My level.
Ten years ago, when he was just starting out and I was earning more than him, that "level" wasn't an issue.
But I didn't argue.
I nodded.

“Okay,” I said.
He looked surprised.
“Okay?”
“Let’s split everything.”
For the first time that evening, he hesitated.

“Are you sure?”
I smiled.
“Of course. But then we split everything.
The house.
The investments.
The accounts we opened together.
